SUSTAINABLE HOME
residential design - 2025
This residential design project reimagines the modern home as a space of ethical and ecological responsibility, grounded in the principles of utilitarianism, ecocentrism, and shallow ecology. By combining high-performance technologies – such as solar panels, energy-efficient appliances, and rainwater harvesting systems – with regionally sensitive passive design strategies and locally sourced materials, the home promotes well-being for both its inhabitants and the surrounding environment. Features like composting toilets, green roofs, and permeable pavers further demonstrate a commitment to long-term sustainability and minimal ecological disruption.

More than just efficient or cost-saving, this home is an ethical response to the climate crisis. Drawing from Aldo Leopold’s land ethic and Arne Naess’s deep ecology, the design treats the site as part of a living ecosystem, not merely a resource to be consumed. It fosters a reconnection between people and nature—supporting biodiversity, encouraging self-sufficiency, and advancing a holistic vision of sustainability that honors both present and future generations.
